چکیده
This study was initiated in 1991 at the Kansas State University Southwest Research-Extension Center near Tribune, KS. The purpose of to identify effects tillage intensity on precipitation capture, soil water storage, and grain yield a wheat-sorghum-fallow rotation. Grain yields wheat sorghum increased with decreased wheat-sorghumfallow (WSF) In 2022, available planting greater for no-tillage (NT) than reduced (RT), which conventional (CT). For there similar pattern as sorghum, being order NT>RT>CT. Averaged across most recent 22 years study, 0.60 inch NT RT approximately 1.7 inches CT. Average RT=NT>CT averaging 7.9 5.9 past years, were 6 bu/a 10 long-term have been 57% (82 vs. 52 bu/a).

Changes in soil microbial community structure with tillage under long-term wheat-fallow management
Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were used to `®ngerprint' soil microbial communities that evolved during 25 years of wheat-fallow cropping following native mixed prairie sod at Sidney, Nebraska, USA. Total ester-linked FAMEs (EL-FAMEs) and phospholipid-linked FAMEs (PL-FAMEs) were compared for their ability to discriminate between plots remaining in sod and those cropped to wheat or left fallo...
متن کاملOne-time Summer Tillage of Chemical Fallow in a Dryland Winter Wheat Rotation Does Not Negate Long-term Benefits Accrued under No-till Management
W hile producers who practice no-till are typically committed to keeping steel out of the ground, there are several reasons why occasional tillage may prove beneficial and offer solutions to some no-till related problems. These include dispersing low-mobility nutrients (i.e. phosphorous that can accumulate near soil surface), reducing soil compaction, and controlling weeds. It is known that til...
متن کاملDry-matter partitioning and leaf area of winter wheat grown in a long-term fallow tillage comparisons in the US Central Great Plains
Crop management practices (tillage, residue management, fertilization, etc.) define the soil environment to which crops are exposed and through these environmental conditions control crop growth. The purpose of this paper is to report the response of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to long-term (10 years) application of fallow tillage practices (plow, sub-till, and no-till) and N fertilizat...
متن کاملReducing tillage intensity Ð a review of results from a long-term study in Germany
This paper reviews research performed at the Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen, Germany into the impact of different tillage systems on soil properties and quality. The impact of intensive soil tillage treatments on several soil properties was described by means of selected data obtained through long-term interdisciplinary research. The experiments were based on comparative application (long-...
